See post above....

My brother has a lot of fun in HA, in unranked groups... which unranked people can get into...and have fun.

So, I guess you are wrong when you say that it isn't possible. In fact, I see a lot of unranked people forming groups all the time.

If, however, you want to be "accepted" into an r6 group then you need to prove yourself. This doesn't necessarily mean getting your r6 either. Believe me on the following: Friends > Rank. Guild > Rank. Your Friend's Friends > Rank. All it takes is you to prove yourself a little. Do the research and practice and you will have a good time in PvP/HA/GvG.

I'm saying its impossible to have fun trying to get fame to be accepted, not to be accepted, but I accept what youre saying. I got my rank 3 a few weeks ago and I'm in a nice pvp guild. Weve done some GvG and HA for practise when less members are online, and I'm really enjoying not needing to run the most gimicky builds to succeed because teamwork is much harder in PuG's.

ffs.... its not impossiable to have fun while trying to get fame and be accepted.

my first ha experience (i decided to take my newly ascended monk into ha), i joined a random pug, (henchway), and we got rolled faster then we killed the zaishen (took us three minutes ). and you know what, i had a blast!!! it was great fun, even losing (which i spent a great amount of time doing). eventually, i learned what to do, and i stopped losing. i started playing with the same unranked people over and over again. I remeber my first halls win, which was the last peice of fame i needed for rank three, and i dont regret getting descriminated against, it made me a better player.

here is a few hints..

Start your own group. the group may and probably will lose, allot, but youll also have fun and learn allot. eventually, youll meet people this way, add them to your f-list, and play with them again. soon, you wont be losing as much (youll still be losing, but not as much), and youll be having more fun. not long after that, youll have your bambi, and you wont have nearly as many problems.

Then of course you could have the regular HA, which would be put back to 8v8. Regarding favor, only the the regular 8v8 would give favor, but the semi-random 6v6 would give some sort of other reward. This is an excellent idea! I would like to see ArenaNet give this kind of option some serious thought.

P.S: I do not mean for this new HA to be a substitution, just another OPTION!
Matchmaking might be a cool idea for the semi-random one.

Since the semi-random version would have alot of new things, the regular one would have really good rewards and only it would contribute to favor.

Say it like it is, that's what I had to do, and now I'm beginning to do it more than ever. Only problem is when I advertise myself on Party Search, and i label myself as noob group lf noobs or the like, I end up getting no one. I hate generic builds now, no one plays anything else.

Easy HA = dead HA.

Easy way to get emote will make emote to be a meaningless graphic effect flashing everywhere.

Rank discrimination is not a main obstacle of getting rank - the problem is in a newbie psychology: do you know what happens when unranked group loses the first battle? Yes, they all leave the team. Most of them just ragequit. They do not want to try more, to fix some problems of their team, improve tactics and build. They just want to whine about rank discrimination.

When this test weekend ends, lots of players will whine if HA will remain to be hard PvP challenge and they will favour changes if there will appear an easy way to earn rank. But! These players ARE NOT HA-players, they are PvE- or RA-players, wishing to flash a deer sometimes. And they don't really care about HA's destiny. When they get their emotes they will abandon HA for ever.

I'm sure that Real HA-players, who spend all their playtime (except GvG) in Heroes' Ascent DO NOT want HA to become easier. They passed hard battles to get their wolfs/tigers/phoenixes. If HA will become easier, HA will die.

P.S. I'm only R3 now, and I'm NOT in PvP/HA/GvG-guild. Yes, it wasn't easy to get rank three, that's why I'm proud a little of this achievement. HA requires patience. If you haven't got it, HA is not for you.

P.P.S. About 8v8. I think it will be better than 6v6 because of more professions will be used in HA-teams. For example, there is no place for mesmers in 6v6-HA.

P.P.S. Sorry for my English.

Best Regards,
Ung

Bring back gimmick builds?

You think 6v6 is free of gimmick builds 6v6 is gimmick heaven compared to 8v8 all you see is gimmicks mostly the same gimmicks at that which is boring and one of the reasons why the population of ha dropped like a stone when anet nerfed ha to 6v6.

As for changing ha to make it eaiser for new players i dont see how this will happen. Any major change will benefit players with experience and knowledge of different skills and builds. A skill balance and change of maps/ objectives are needed but for there won reasons. High ranked players will still adapt faster (in general) to new situations.

I dont understand how people say being low rank stops them playing.
Everyone started a some point and got rolled when they started. I didnt get beat a few times and think omg I better join a r6 group. I pugged my way in rank 1,2,3 groups before getting into the wilderness of rank 3+ (before being able to show title you couldnt tell the difference between r3 and r6). At no time did I feel the need to get into high rank groups before being that rank myself. If I did end up in higher rank groups it was because of contacts I played with, Not expecting some rank 6/9 team to come and pick me up from the district and ignore there own friends and guildies to take me.

The link is from the HA section and should be read by any players wanting to get started in HA. However if you just want to compain about rank descrimination dont bother reading that and playing with other people in your situation trying to get better.

First of all i would like to say that i dont see a split between pve-and pvp players, most pvp-ppl i know play lots of pve too.

Second,I couldnt agree more with Ung,after finishing all pve-campaings with most of my chars,i started HA ,obviously as r0 now i am a r8 soon to be r9,i started in r0 groups and fought my way up,i never complained about so-called rank discrimination cause thats just a fashion word, mostly used by impatience players that wanne try ha once and get to hoh instantly(I won my first HoH at r5),this in itself says all;when you make rank meaningless and easy to get ,ha will be dead ;why would you expect to get in a high-ranked group of people that made the effort and took the time to lvl up and got to know like-minded friends;when i need a registered nurse i can ask for her papers(hence rank)its free for all non-registered nurses to take some time and effort to get those papers but all started with none.

All this is maybe a bit off-topic,cause its not clear to me what you wanne change in"game-mechanics"but to be honest the frase "shake-up ha" makes me a bit anxious,I just hope you are not gonne make ha-ranks meaningless, cause ppl fought long and hard to get those ranks and it is and always will be possible to get your rank as my story shows,Ha is now ,in its current state, accessible for ppl of all lvl`s regardless if you are a r0 or r12 player and rank and fame can be earned by all ,just take the time and put some effort in it instead of whining and dont expect to win HoH on your first run ever.

If you wanne ha more playble for all our impatient friends then keep 6vs6, bring back heroway, drop scarred or make winnings there double fame;pBut plz dont make ha easy, its suppossed to be hard but not impossible,so that the titles keep meaning anything and youll keep,by having reached them, and have fun reaching them.

Lightbulb Anet. Please Fix Transparency Of All Spirits!

This may be off topic, but ranger spirits, and summand spirits should be transparent and not be able to body block people, this is very frustrating especially on relic runs!

Use aoe, interupt whoevers putting down the spitits its not that hard. Also having room for the required utility (8v8) would help.

8v8=iway and more b-spike, and more fame farmers. in short rank would lose more prestiege then it already has.

Using the iway scapegoat cause you heard that it once existed. Yes that MUST have been why Anet went to 6v6...

These builds were gimmicks yeah they were annoying to play against but they were easily dealt with back in 8v8. In 6v6 we have had far more problems with gimmicks such as paragon way and jagged way. These are no better than iway or bloodspike and having some strange fear of iway and bloodspike while ignoring the fact that gimmicks in 6v6 are worse is just silly.

No matter the size of teams in ha fotms like iway and jagged way will always exist simply because some builds are better than others or easy to run compared to others and will catch on amongst large amounts of players. This isnt even a bad thing it encourages more people to play if there are easy to run builds. the problem is when these builds are not just common but everywhere i mean like 7/8 teams which is happening now and never happened when 8v8 was around. The reason is simply the lack of utility that hit ha at the time of its nerf to 6v6. It became build wars and player skill became less important than the build taken in.

Also i would love to see bloodpsike hold against grenth dervishes, as soon as people see that builds like that cant hold as well they wont be as popular.

A notice for Necromancer fans: As soon as the skill changes are up, I'll post an indepth skill analysis of all the altered skills. (People liked that when I did an analysis of Necromancer Nightfall skills when they were introduced, so I'll do it again)

If ArenaNet does a good job balancing the Necromancer (as that is my expertise), I may be tempted to log-in. But if they overnerf Spoil Victor and Reaper's Mark without buffing any other elites...

I am totally not interested in this upcoming event. I could not give a rat's behind about PVP. I myself have logged over 4500 hours in game in 13 months which includes a 4 months break. I have always disliked that only PVPers get those rank emotes and the titles can be earned by both. I am not planning to participate. I think the whole PVP and GVG focus in Guild Wars is why all the best PVE skills keep getting nerfed. The PVPers just whine when they can't beat a build and Anet nerfs the skills under the guise of "game balancing".

Jagged bones builds actually take some skill and experience to win with. I wouldnt compare that to Iway.

I'm not sure about this new zergway (or however its spelled) if its easy or not (havent played it yet) but the only real gimmick build is SF way that ive seen. Most builds seem to be pretty balanced.

If you dont care about pvp you shouldnt bother posting in a thread about it.

I have posted because Anet wants players opinions of the upcoming weekend and guess what PVE people are players too. Also, changes in the skills based on PVP affect PVE.
